An excellent stay in winter time. Fairly clean place & extremely friendly staff. Family room with bath and shower, the toilet on a different level plus a private washroom. Great and fab meals. Unbeatable and excellent location, within walking distance of everywhere.

The room was cheap, extremely spacious and with bathroom. Had nice facilities like a microwave, central heating and coffee/tea making equipment.

I recently stayed at Ryokan Ohto Cat Garden for a few nights during my trip to Kyoto. The location was perfect, just a short walk from the subway and bus services. There were also plenty of inexpensive eateries and convenience stores nearby. The traditional Japanese sleeping arrangement on a futon was comfortable, and the shared toilet and shower facilities were clean. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and having a translation app was a bonus. it was a great budget ryokan experience with a traditional touch.
Couldn't recommend this hotel more.

The hotel was a small, Japanese style, probably family run inn. The staff was very polite and friendly. We were able to communicate even thought they spoke almost no English and I don't speak any Japanese. The location is in a quiet area close to some temples.

Friendly staff, convenient location, traditional Japanese tatami rooms, affordable prices, easy access to transportation, nearby convenience stores.
Nothing that I didn't like.

There is nothing that we like for our stay.
We have booked 2 twin rooms, and when arrived, there was no 2 twin rooms as pre-booked but only a small room up in the apartment's top floor extension, just enough to put 4 single beds squeezed together. Needless to say about any private bath room or toilet. As it is an extension up the roof, it is very hot like an oven in the afternoon. It was not worth to stay.

It is located in a quiet area, where you can mostly see local people around.
Comminication with the hotel stuff was very difficult. Their English was really poor.

The facilities at Hotel Ryokan Ohto Cat Garden were perfect for guests with disabilities. The accessible rooms were spacious and well-designed, with grab bars and wide doorways to accommodate wheelchair users. The hotel also provided a wheelchair rental service and had ramps throughout the property, making it easy for guests to move around independently. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
The hotel was so welcoming and accommodating that we felt right at home from the moment we checked in. There was truly nothing to complain about during our stay.

We had an incredible 4-night stay in Kyoto. The japanese-style twin room had convenient amenities such as climate control, a coffee machine, and a writing table. We were also pleased with the complimentary WiFi connection. The breakfast at Ohto Ryokan is reasonably priced at 300 JPY per person per day.

Located in a prime location, this hotel is within walking distance of most of Kyoto's attractions. It is close to certain sightseeings and conveniently near the bus stop, which is the route to reach the popular tourist attractions. Furthermore, the hotel is situated right next to a train station, allowing for easy access to explore the city. The rooms are traditional-style and come equipped with amenities such as a small fridge, microwave, and workspace with a decent chair and desk. Additionally, there is a water cooler in the lobby and on each floor, providing convenience for guests.
Be aware that there is no elevator in the hotel, meaning guests have to carry their luggage up several flights of stairs.

The place is very peaceful and silent. Good hosts and fine service. A true Japanese style hotel!
The rooms are divided by paper walls, so in some rooms there's quite some noise from the corridor or another room. Earplugs can do the trick.

There are many traffic means for sight-seeing Kyoto near Ohto. My wife and I drove to Ohto and parked temporally. Then we used the public buses and the subway to enjoy a restaurant in Karasuma-Maruta Machi. The bus map Ohto prepared was very useful for us.
